Teaching
Nurturing the Next Generation of Dancers
“Music and dance is to give us happiness, to spiritually take us up from all the mundane problems that we face everyday and if dance would really do that, I think it is a contribution that the dance has done.”
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that Bharatanatyam is not merely a technique or a cultural form, but a language that can be used to express one’s story. My approach blends rigorous classical training with reflective exploration — guiding students to find authenticity in tradition and personal expression within structure. I am keen to mentor both beginners and advanced students with prior training, who are curious to learn about this form. My classes often comprises of students who are returning to dance after a long gap. I aim to create a safe and inclusive space for them to find a gradual way back to dance by nurturing their curiosity and love for this art form.
Curriculum
Group Classes emphasize adavus (foundational movements), abhinaya (expression), rhythm, body conditioning, choreography, and philosophical context. I encourage interdisciplinary understanding, drawing connections between music, rhythm and storytelling to cultivate a holistic artistic vision.
Training
- Private mentorship for students who have received basic training in Bharatanatyam (equivalent to arangetram) and would like to develop their craft

- Working with live music towards understanding the role of music and poetry in creating the bhava for dance
- Understand concepts of rhythm in Carnatic music through recitation and nattuvangam and by dancing with live Mridangham in class.
- Work towards building a margam with the ability to perform with precise technique and immersive bhava,

Quotes from my teacher
Prof. C. V. Chandrasekhar
“Every day for a teacher and a student should be a day of some new learning.
More Quotes:
“The musicians basically are the nerves of the dancer. The musicians, when they see a dancer executing in a beautiful way, also receive the response and give out their best.”
“My mentor and preceptor, Srimathi Rukmani Devi, always said, that dance should elevate the human being, it should be very spiritual, and no matter what religion we follow, spirituality is beyond all religions.”
Students Testimonials
I completed my arangetram with Arno in 2024, after learning from her in group classes with Mandala Arts and Culture and in individual private classes. We worked together for many years preparing, including making accommodations to continue training even as I moved away for university. Although the arangetram process can be overwhelming, it was a gift to learn from Arno. Her knowledge, understanding, kindness, love for bharatanatyam, and drive to support her students inspires me. Looking back, the best part of my arangetram was being able to devote 3 months to learning from and training with Arno. The arangetram journey taught me a lot, and I am eternally grateful to have had Arno’s mentorship throughout the process.”
